  • What do you value?
  • What is your organization's culture?
  • What are your short and long term plans and strategies?
  • How might market forces, opportunities, or life events alter those plans?
  • What are your goals?
  • How long do you want to occupy your facility?
  • Do you have an exit strategy?
  • What's your schedule? Budget? Appropriate level of quality? In what order of priority do you place them?
  • Can you be sure your project's outcome will be successful?

Successful projects are not born of abstract philosophies, taste or style. To provide enduring value, architecture must arise from your needs, values and aspirations. The process of design – whether for a new building, renovations or alterations to a recent or historic building, or a maintenance program to extend the service life of an aging building – begins with questions about your needs, your goals, facts about you.

Architecture that will survive the test of time begins with an empirically based process of problem solving. As your architect, we'll use our process of information collection and observation to develop your unique building program. Your building solution will evolve from your program, as we translate it into reality using our experience in many different building and project types, our knowledge of relevant social and scientific theory, and our knowledge of building technology.

How do you know a project is successful? -- Does it demonstrate responsiveness to the needs and aspirations of the people who occupy it? Does it have the flexibility to accommodate change? Does it have relevance to a larger community? If the answer to these questions is yes, the project will pass the test of time and provide enduring value.
